What is reTHAWed?
reTHAWed is a total conversion mod for Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. New content, content from other games, cut content from AW and other TH games, mod support, bug fixes, online multiplayer, etc. Sounds good on paper right? Well, theres far more to the story then what the mod itself presents.
More to the story?
Yes, there is more to the story. I don't mean in game either. The mod's dev team and community has gotten a terrible reputation they have given themselves over the past few years. From racist, sexist, transphobic, and bigoted behavior all the way to allegations of CSAM distribution. reTHAWed is a mod you should avoid at all costs. To start off this article, lets dive into an interview.
Interview with daffodil
I interviewed a prominent former member of the community, daffodil. Here is how it went.
Me: Would it be ok if I call you a contributor to reTHAWed?
daffodil: I was not a contributor. I did not work directly on the mod in any capacity. I made a video game called STREET UNI X and I was asked by the mod team if I would like to feature my game's logo in the mod to use on character clothing and deck graphics and stuff because I was an avid player and was just starting to immerse myself in the community at the time. I also supplied the team with STREET UNI X's balance meter graphics and for a short time STREET UNI X's balance meters were usable in the reTHAWed via the customization options. Once I was banned from the community, which I talk more about in another one of my answers, they repeatedly refused to remove my game's logos from the mod and it was only once I threatened legal action that they scrambled to remove references to STREET UNI X and remove the graphics. They did keep my balance meters in the game for about a month afterwards, but renamed them "Pixel Meters" or something like that, effectively plagiarizing my work. I had to repeatedly check in on the game when they pushed updates to ensure they actually followed through on the removal of my work.
Me: Are you Trans? I am a nonbinary transfem so no hate sent your way if so.
daffodil: Yes I am nonbinary and trans-feminine
Me: Would you consider the reTHAWed team to be transphobic, homophobic, racist, antisemitic, and in general bigoted? If not the whole team then who?
daffodil: I believe that some of the members of the team are overtly racist and transphobic, with the worst offender being Zedek, as had been shown in numerous screenshots of his behaviour in game, in 10k Rising's discord chat, on X, and elsewhere online. I believe that the team is generally bigoted in the way that they see no problem with working with someone who is overtly hateful. It is my view that if you collaborate with someone who you know is hateful, and you do not confront them and hold them accountable for that hate, then you are complicit in that hate. Some of the members of the team I don't believe would say anything resembling what Zedek has said and I believe they think this means they aren't complicit and they aren't racist themselves. Racism comes in many forms, from overtly saying slurs and kicking people out of spaces that stand up to this, all the way down to silently maintaining relationships with people who do these things without any pushback or questioning whatsoever. The team has collectively embodied, cultivated, and remained complacent of and complicit in a community that has no problem with speaking hatefully as long as it's done under the guise of a "Joke".
Me: Is the allegations of CP being spammed on THPSX by Zedek true?
daffodil: I have no idea about this. I did not know about this but I have heard there are people involved in the running on THPSX who may have proof of this. I believe these accusations myself based on the history of Zedek's activity with the malicious group Open Spy Killers, and based on the rhetoric common in 10K and especially in their group chats. 10K Rising's youtube account claims that Zedek has admitted to the raids but denies that the raids included sending illegal material in THPSX's chat. They claimed this in respond to the video Wojack Toter posted titled "reTHAWed is dead" which was posted a few days ago as of writing this.
Me: How has your experience on the reTHAWed discord and online multiplayer been?
daffodil: In reTHAWed online when I was still playing I would frequently see players saying hateful stuff about women, trans people, black people, and basically anyone who isn't cis or white. I would push back every time and be ridiculed and harassed for doing so. They would double down and say even more horrible stuff. The online culture of that space has been steeped in white supremacy and normalizing hatred of all kinds of people. They bully each other and they harass and gaslight and threaten anyone who calls out any of this behaviour, like they did to me. The mod team has the tools and the skills to implement safety and moderation tools into the online portion of the game and especially in the discord server but has repeatedly insisted this isn't possible or that they don't believe that the people who have been on the record saying this stuff should be held to account for this.
The 10K discord server was even worse than online in the game in my experience. I think the screenshots that were going around speak for themselves. In my time there Zedek was repeatedly making jokes about using the n word, users were constantly calling things and each other gay as a derogatory term, people were deliberately misgendering other users they knew were transgender, and in some cases people who were celebrated as contributors to the mod who are still mentioned on the website would repeatedly speak about sex in the presence of and in some cases towards users they knew were teenagers. Every time I called any of this behaviour out, and stood up for myself or other users in the community, I would get harassed by a particular in group. Others would stay silent. The in group had a private chat going that included at least two of the developers, Drake and Zedek, but I believe uzis had access to this chat as well. Jokes about me being beheaded by "the islamic state" were shared in the discord's general chat and I was tagged in these posts, and I was banned for standing up for myself and expressing how unacceptable this was. Drake told me in DMs that I was going to stay banned because if I stayed I would keep getting harassed. bGoatBiz another developer on the mod and someone I used to call my friend also said in his server THPSGoat to someone else asking that I remain banned from 10K Rising because he considered it toxic and "not cordial" when I stand up for myself against bullying racism and transphobia trageted at me in that community. He has also said this in the responses to Wojack Toter's video about the harassment and transphobia that was targeted at me that I mentioned earlier. I remain banned from the discord to this day even though I hear they have changed the rules and are allegedly standing up against racism in their community now. I do not trust the people in charge of this mod or this community to follow through on this however, no matter how many times the developers say the community "is in good hands". None of them know what "good hands" look like because they have all been varying degrees of complicit in this hatred.
Me: Is there anything else that Tokyo-to.neocities visitor's should be aware of regarding the mod?
daffodil: Zedek has a history of exploiting malicious code in games like THUG Pro and other games utilizing the Open Spy network to harass and cause problems for players he decides with his in group of friends that he doesn't like for whatever reason. I do not trust reTHAWed to be installed on my system in any capacity anymore given what I have learned about this in the past, and especially given the fact that Zedek is still the lead programmer on the project. I would be very careful not only installing the mod but especially connecting to any servers online if you decide after all of this that you are comfortable playing this thing.
More than one 10K Rising user has posted about me on doxxing forums trying to get people to harass and target me and I suspect they will do the same to anyone else who is not afraid to be a public figure online and who makes it their business to stand up against hatred and harassment.
The reTHAWed dev team is relying on the fact that this will blow over in order to continue working on the project without any consequence. Zedek is happy to push his teammates Drake and Uzis away from the project and carry on working on it himself.
The community is full of bullies, racists, transphobes, and cowards, and spending any time there or in the community of their mod will further emboldens them towards believing that their thing is cool enough that they can get away with this. I encourage readers to stand up for liberation instead of turning a blind eye just because you think the product of these horrible people is cool. There are literally thousands of games you can play instead, and probably a hundred extreme sports games you probably haven't tried yet that are fun, unique, and interesting that are way more worth checking out.
Zedek and the Community
On April 3rd 2026, CrookTHPS posted these images to the THPS subreddit. These gives creedence to the allegations that Zedek (one of the lead devs of reTHAWed) and the 10k community are racist. It doesn't stop there.
These images showcase Zedek and other members of the VCR discord being racist, transphobic, antisemitic, and bigoted. They attempt to pass these off as jokes.
Between the events that took place in the images above and whats below, the 10k discord server started to blow up. Crook became villified by the community for "starting drama" that the community and devs themselves had created by being terrible people. It seemed like for a moment there that multiple devs had quit but that was just a farce. As of writing this the only one that remains out is Uzis.

With the more recent post you can see astroturfing actively going on and well, the 10k community seem to be actively winning that effort. This does not change the issues and in fact nothing has been fixed. The terrible people are still terrible and now feel justified in being so. The problematic devs are still problematic and on the team.

Important Information on ReTHAWeD MOD
From my personal experience with other games, this is an issue that really should get more attention. Zedek has attempted to explain the vulnerabities away as it just being the nature of older PC games but that doesn't make the threat any less real. By playing reTHAWed online and potentially even just the single player, you are putting your PC and any sensitive info on it at risk.
If you have played reTHAWed and are concerned about this, I recommend reinstalling your operating system. If you are using Windows, delete your drive's partitions and reinstall windows. If you are using a Linux distro, delete your drive's partitions and reinstall the distro. If you want to be extra cautious then it should be known that reinstalling a distro does not mean all the information has been written over and can still potentially be problematic, some linux distros let you right over all the space on a drive which does make this problem null.
Closing Statement
Tokyo-to.neocities was heavily inspired by a quote. "Tag walls, punch fascists". Since it's creation we have found another that heavily inspires us "Nazi punks fuck off". Both of these quotes apply to this situation. It is our belief that in order to keep the extreme sports community alive, we must come together to keep nazis/fascists out of our space. Extreme sports belong to everyone except fascists.
